I've always rented from Jimmy. He is easy to deal with and once he knows you it really is hassle free renting. I've thought about renting in Bangkok when I see a deal, but in the end it seems to be much easier picking up and dropping off in Korat.
Take the bus from BKK, get off at The Mall and pick up the car there.
Jimmy has always been helpful in dropping me off whereever I need to go when I return the rental. And besides, he is always good for a night out (and I've YET to pick up the tab - so perhaps I am paying too much!)

The owner Jimmy speaks great english, so don't worry about calling him. I rented a pickup from him for 1000 per day, and have no complaints what so ever. Deposit 5000 returned in full.
